With almost two decades of experience in teaching swimming, Anneke gives her students the skills, confidence and ‘water baby’ passion to dive right in.
Being able to see a child’s confidence grow with each lesson they participate in is what Anneke deems the most rewarding aspect of her job. Having taught swimming for 16 years, she places as much focus on teaching the practical applications of swimming – technique, strokes and lesson-by-lesson progress – as she does on teaching the psychological aspects of it… a deep sense of respect for the water and a lifelong love for it.
With a Swim SA LTS Certificate, Aqua Tots Certificate (Nell White) and SA Bronze Lifesaving Certificate under her belt, Anneke is not only qualified, she’s clearly dedicated to her craft. Having learnt to swim (taught by her father) at the tender age of two, she’s been swimming for about as long as she’s been walking and the sheer joy she gets from being in the water and teaching others to thrive in it is evident.
A mother of three (23-year old Ruan, 20-year old Leandri and 19-year old Chandré), Anneke’s maternal instinct – and experiences of raising her own children – coupled with her qualifications makes her a very special breed of swimming teacher indeed. Her motto is “Healthy body, healthy mind, balanced life” and when she’s not poolside (or in the pool herself) you’re likely to find her in her garden, which (safe to say) is her second favourite place.
